What to expect at a chicken restaurant
Chicken restaurants include fried chicken chains, Southern-style chicken shacks, rotisserie and Peruvian pollo a la brasa spots, Korean fried chicken and dedicated wing joints. Nashville hot chicken – fried, then coated in cayenne paste – has spread nationwide over the past decade.
What to order
- Bone-in wings – pick a classic buffalo sauce to compare places
- Fried chicken – dark meat stays juicier
- Chicken tenders – the safe choice for kids
- Hot chicken – start at a lower heat level than you think
Good to know
- Wing deals are common on weekdays; game days are the busiest.
- Order sauce on the side for takeout to keep wings crisp.
- Heat scales are not standardized – “hot” at one place can be “mild” at another.
